Legacy desktop apps matter. We know the amount of work put into the years of development is a great deal for thousands of companies out there. Development of a new system and an introduction of this system to employees comes with a risk. And, anything that risks the effectiveness of processes in your company is undesirable.

That’s why Webswing is a great solution for legacy Java applications. Solution, now used by thousands of clients and users. A lot of them often ask who stands behind the idea of Webswing.

Irish-Slovak company

Webswing is an Irish-Slovak company, that created a solution for existing Java applications, Swing-based applications and Applets, allowing them to run on the web without the necessity of code modification.

Viktor Meszaros, software creator and company founder explained in Forbes article, how the idea behind Webswing started. “I commuted by train every day. It bothered me to carry a heavy laptop with me. It occurred to me that I could programme software that would allow me to work with apps directly through a web browser.”

Not a long time after the software was released, Viktor received offers from Canada, Netherlands, England and China. These offers made him move several times and soon, the companies became Webswing’s first clients. “Clients had increasingly specific requirements, so my hobby became a real business,” says Viktor for Forbes.

What we focus on

As the demand for digitalisation among many different industries continues to rise, having well established desktop application can become an issue.

“Older Java applications that a user downloads to their computer have been around since about the year 2000. What used to be a common practice is now a burden for most people,” Andrej Zelman, developer and co-founder

Therefore, our main focus is to provide a reliable solution for everyone who needs their app to be accessible online. Webswing translates platform specific actions to browser actions making it accessible to users instantly. Without the need to change the app itself, source code or its background business logic. By implementing Webswing, clients save a significant amount of time, human resources, and costs overall, turning technological debt into an advantage.

“Our technology is mainly used by large companies, such as insurance companies, banks and aviation industry companies that have huge systems, the re-programming of which would represent a significant investment. With Webswing, you don’t have to make any changes. This saves them a lot of time and especially money,” says Martin Balaz, head of marketing and partner for Forbes.

Security and Stability

Running Java based application in Webswing brings an advantage of no security threats from outdated Java runtime on client machines. Webswing releases security updates and bug fixes every month to ensure the best possible and safe experience for users.

“We are aware of the fact that many companies depend on our technology, so security and transparency are our priorities. We have created a vision for several years in advance and can therefore inform our clients about what they can expect from new versions,” says Andrej Zelman.

Webswing has a stable release cycle that follows the Java Support Roadmap. New versions of Webswing are released twice a year and Long Term Support (LTS) version is released every 18 months.

Our goal was to build a company that has a system, strategy and service provision to global corporations that often have very specific requirements. So far, so good,” says Igor Gembula, head of sales and partner.
